Brazil has been mad about aviation, going back to Santos Dumont, who they claim made the first powered flight.

He surely was the first in Europe - Beating the Danish Pioneer Ellehammer who was an inventor in own aircraft and not an archetype daredevil aviator, hence Ellehammers experiments was on a circular track and attached to a centered pole, thus not being free flight, though reportedly having 'hopped' 40 meters weeks before Dumonts achievement.

I wasn't familiar with the design. I figured if we are going to talk about it, I better

go find out what IT is. The funny thing is that the Cessna 172 was the second

aircraft I actually got to fly in. I did not even know it until yesterday that it was

a Cessna 172 when I looked it up. I believe that flight took place in the summer

of 1973. I do not remember what New England state we were in at the time. All

I remember was the main theme of the trip was to go see down town New York

City by way of subway trains.
