Came across this thread from 4 years ago, http://www.pprune.or...-bomb-load.html

He sure gets around and as obnoxious as ever.

Wow. He is so painful and full of it. He'd see a photo of a plane in one configuration and extrapolate that to every one made.

Some of his greatest hits in there - like B-17s shot down more German fighters than any allied fighter, the claim that BIIIs with Packard Merlins could carry a larger load than BI with RR Merlins (18,000lb vs 14,000lb), the Lancaster was fragile and less serviceable.

I feel like I want to respond to his discussion.

Actually, that was the best thing about Shooter - he came out with so much shit that everybody piled on more facts and figures to debunk it all.

I saw that he claimed that all 34 bomb shackles on a B-17 could be fitted with a 440lb bomb - even though many were only rated to 100lb.

And that the B-17 could fit 4 x 4,000lb medium case bombs - 2 per side. Which is odd, since only 2 of the internal racks could carry a 2,000lb GP bomb, the Americans never made a 4,000lb medium case (a British designation, btw) or GP bomb and the 4,000lb light case bomb was as big or bigger (certainly across the fins) than the British 4,000lb MC or HC bombs, which could not fit in teh B-17 because they were longer than the space between the bomb bay bulkheads.

That is the only good thing you could say about him.

Haven't seen him in some years - he says he is 67 in the link - did he pass on?

That and he always raises forum activity - everybody wants to point out what he got wrong.

He was active earlier this year on ww2aircraft.net

If there is one place you wouldn't want to post mis-information....

His special topic was how the slats on the Bf 109 enabled it to fly at higher AoA, turn inside a Spitfire and shoot across the circle.

Apart from publishing absolute rubbish, I can't remember him getting personal in the way others have. He was still very annoying, though.
