I reckognize the impressive post war B-36 bomber and probably because of it's many similarities with the B-29, I've never realised it's actual size.
Today I came past this picture from the presenting of the XB-36 prototype wich clearly sets the (to Me, surprising) size in perspective!

There's an air museum in Omaha Nebraska that has a B-36 on display,

When I was much younger, my father, mother and I dropped in while on a vacation trip. At that time the museum was much smaller and the B-36 was outside. There was no one else in attendance that day and my father asked if the manager was available. He was. My dad introduced himself as an associate of Ed Maloney from California and for the next 90 minutes or so we got the VIP treatment. The manager gave us a personal tour and even opened up the B-36 for me to climb through. I took the trolly through the tube from the front to the back. As I recall it was a long claustrophobic trip :)

Following I've surfed a little on the subject, but find no definition of how early the ugly greenhouse style cockpit was used.
Does anyone know more about that?

Considering the size of a B-17 tailplane this is only a minor extension ;-)

The YB-36 got the greenhouse cockpit.
