Just to break the summer silence:
As a citizen of a small nation of aprox. 5 million inhabitants I would like to present you of the intriguing question: How many olympic medals do you expect Your closest 5 million community to harvest this year?
Several? Few? None?
To avoid directly bragging, those who might be interested in a comparison, the Danish Olympic harvest through time is to find at: https://en.m.wikiped...at_the_Olympics!

I noticed a sports commentator saying that the Danes are competetive in sports where the athlets are sitting (bicycling; rowing and sailing) but women's handball and trapshooting have been victorious too.
Danish female swimmers are succesfull in international tournaments: Top-5 girls have collected a total of 127 international medals (of wich the 58 in gold) since 2008, however they have only seen one Olympic (bronze) in the period. Hence hopes are high around them too.
The risk of an empty medal-basket this year aren't to debate, as Denmark already has received a silver medal in road-bicycling!

I'll finish with some bragging even so: My local community, a midsized Danish township with a population of aprox. 50.000 have raised 3 olympic winners: All sailing a Soling-class boat in the '92 olympics - The skipper, Jesper Bank doing it again in '96 with another crew!

Fredericia, I suppose?

Never believe in statistics you didn't doctor yourself (Winston Churchill, who btw kept himself distant from sports, drank, smoked, and anyway became 90 years old).

Tried to joke on this by mentioning olympic games take place only every 4 years, so the Finnish statistics result on special games only for them in between the period :D but then realized since 1994 the winter games take place in the gap

So, three of the four leading places are held by members of the finno-ugric language group... what to learn from that? And why are the Bahamas #3? Could the majority of the Bahamian medal winners possibly be of finno-ugric descent?

Yup - 20 NM East of BLL, as written!
With an active sailing-club since year 1900, wich very early saw the need of schooling youngsters and bought a common boat for the purpose in the 20's. On long sight it payed out ;-)

Though a quite small nation of just little more than 300000 inhabitants, Bahamian Runners have done it repeatedly good at the 15 summer olympics in wich they have participated!

As Finland has about the same population as Denmark, this only tightens the intrigue in the question of 'the closest 5-million community' :-o
