I visited in here during my summer vacation to Finland. This airfield was base of HLeLv 24, Täyd. Lelv 35 and PLeLv 48 1939 - 1944. 1947 the Finnish Air Force commander ordered that there should be one of each fabric-coated planes of Finnish AF preserved to museums, and they would be stored to this hangar. As you can see, it is quite packed still.

This is more like collection waiting to be restored, and they are doing that, one plane at the time. There are one and only remaining Blackburn Ripon and Aero A32 in this hangar plus some Finnish rarities. The museum guide for us was former Finnish AF MiG pilot.

DH Vampire. Previously used to clean Rissala airfield, and then abandoned in the woods there, hence the condition.

You mean like to blow away the snow? I'm curious...

Correct. Basically they just towed it around with tow bar and blew the snow away with it. Then when they figured out something more efficient (jet engines from Fouga or MiG-15 mounted on trucks) they just towed this in forest to rot away, and it was salvaged from there. It is waiting to get in.

Funnily and sadly that one is the one which always end up being the title picture...

It's my impression that the Swiss airforce have suplied the market with quite many surplus Vampires early in the 90's, hence IMO it might not be worth spending time and money to rebuild this one :-|
