Among the earliest fighter aircrafts of the Young state of Israel was several Czech built Messerschmitt bf109, AKA the Avia S-199.
One might think that destiny was cruel by slipping a Nazi-German design in the hands of the Jewish state, but in addition Israeli S-199 pilots managed to down several Egyptian Spitfires in their very early conflicts :-o

The Israelis have some of the best pilots on earth. Perhaps it stems from enforced dogfighting practice ...

They can't fly very far in a straight line without crossing an international border, so they take advantage of that to become better pilots by regularly fighting with great attention to the borders. It gives them great situational awareness, even in propeller fighters. They made what is arguably the worst version of the Bf 109 into a winner. That alone says a lot about their determination, their competence, and their ability to make the best of what they have.

If you need something in the region destroyed, you could do a LOT worse than to contract it out to the IAF.
