Lets make a picture thread with planes on piedestals as known afront of airbase and museum entrances!

Though having inspiration and plans, I lack to get own pictures of this Pinned Birds yet, hence I'll open the show with Heräkulmans wonderfull picture of SAAB Draken DK-201 afront of Halli Airbase.
DK-201earned the display by being the first as well as the last flying Finnish Draken!

Now, lets get some more, without I have to Pick them myself from the museum-pictures, and I promise to get around in DK with the Camera in 2016 - This being my first and only new year resolution!

Iljushin Il-28 "Beagle" on display "behind" Riga Skulte Airport (Riga International), Latvia.

The plane is located in center of village which during Soviet occupation was housing Soviet pilots and their families.

The monument is for heroism of  Soviet Baltic fleet air forces bombing Berlin for few weeks in 1941.

IIRC was the '41 Berlin bombing remarkable hence it was done by the long range IL-8(?) bomber of wich the major feature is that it is propulsed by four diesel engines!
[could have done the research before replying: It was the Pe-8!]

Only remarkable thing about those was the fact that those were the first long-distance missions by soviets. OFC they were announced as great victories.

As we in Germany are reluctant to put symbols of our shame on poles, we leave this to our American friends (them having a different intention, of course) to do so in Tejon/California:

What is NOT remarkable about WWII aircraft? And in this forum? The diesel engines were remarkable because they were malfunctioning... [quoted from memory; could have done research but this were better suited in a different thread ;) ]
