You've wanted it, you knew it was coming. Now heeeeeeeeere it is.

Spitfire versus Messerschmitt? There can be only one winner. I ask you, the viewers, to decide.

So very briefly, explain your reasoning as to which of these great aircraft should be the true victor, and why?

And so will the winner be the proud owner of...

The Triumph would have it all over the Messerschmitt in performance terms, but I think the tables are turned when you talk about serviceability!

Hi Corsarius,

With gasoline costing 1.50€ per liter (about $9.00 per U.S. gallon!!!), you be the judge. :D

I'm gonna have to say the spit on this one. That eliptical wing is the defining factor for me.

Hi guys, just like to add my comment,it's got to be the Spitfife,it's unique design ,and manouverabilty ,does it for me.the ME109 although a good fighter, had major floors, one in particular the width of the under carriage, many pilots were actually killed whilst taking off, because the plane if not handled correctly tilted to the left or right during take off.Adolf Galland German fighter ace flew 109s ,stated this was a problem German pilots feared, that being the less experienced. The only good point was the 109s armament. Its the spit for me.thanks Keith.

As a tech buff I have been steadily more fond of the gasoline injection of the 109's DB605.
The advantage by injection is commonly known as being able to pull negative G's but for the latter discussion about super/turbo -charging is the fact that injection works better with charging, than a carburettor does!
The functionallity of the design around building of the exterior, is another tech-detail wich gets point from me!
But judged by the eyes, the Spit' is a clear winner!
