Stalking the net for aircraft pictures often leads to ones I should have had when I produced the corresponding GOT topic, but I didn't. Also, when I check my older ones again, I sometimes see that I didn't include pictures at all. This can be made up. I also had to see that included pictures sometimes disappear - when the hotlinked webpage does so. Maybe you also remember contributor BlackWolf3945 who gave a lot of B-19 pictures to the corresponding topic - fine ones, but too black in my eyes. I commented that, but did nothing further - thinking the collectors among you may care themselves for quality. BlackWolf used a photobucket account like I do myself - but his one seems to be off. So you should get pictures of sufficient quality - and one or two more new ones.

This can only be made step by step, takes time and will not be very systematic. So, when you see an old GOT topic being bumped up by my action, you know there are new pictures inserted. Sometimes it may be quite a bunch, sometimes only one picture. Hope you will enjoy.

Regards, RT

Hi Simon,

I wonder if I might ask a question ...

In another forum that shall remain nameless and otherwise unmentioned, we have the option to upload pictures to the forum server itself, so we don't have to use links to anywhere else on the web. That way, if the forum is up, the pics are available. The caveat is to include the source and to state if you have had the pic so long you can't recall the source.

Is there any possibility of including the ability to upload pics to the TGPlanes server? I have a BUNCH. Some are openly pirated from the web, but I have many of my own drawings and can certainly upload them in much better resolution than the sketches I sent a couple of years ago. Also, most are MUCH better now that I have worked on them.

Think about it ... and please let us know one way or the other in a post by you or Taglia titled "Uploading Pics" or something to that effect.

Also, I have been wondering when the new database will get turned on ... but have not bothered Tags with an email asking about it ... any update? :)

If there's no link to the pics, might as well delete this thread ...

Hi friends,

sorry but I really needed a lot of time for other work before I could dedicate myself again to the GOT complex. I promised you to upload new pictures, but I know, I did not keep. Well, I know I shouldto do so sooner or later, but when I tried to make a new start, I found that a lot of topics are not in a good state. They depend on links which are now dead, so they need a reconstruction. In some even the main, much praised articles are missing. I am going to load them again. Also, I am not very satisfied with the search function here. Not only that it needs 120 seconds pause between two search efforts. It also excludes many inputs. For example, you can successfully search for "Bell", but not for "GOT:", although they both have four letters. The difference probably is the colon. "GOT" was intended to label articles of corresponding structure, and if searching for this is not possible, I think it is necessary to list all GOT topics to provide an easy access. The list follows, mainly using Greg's original scripture, but includes also the newer done ones.

While checking this, I found that I had forgot some aircraft, for which reason I can't remember. Also, a couple are not suitable for a GOT topic about them. But I still hope this list helps further for finding these articles. Improvements will be done step by step.

Regards, RT

Also, I am not very satisfied with the search function here. Not only that it needs 120 seconds pause between two search efforts.

Lowered to 20 seconds

It also excludes many inputs. For example, you can successfully search for "Bell", but not for "GOT:", although they both have four letters. The difference probably is the colon. "GOT" was intended to label articles of corresponding structure, and if searching for this is not possible, I think it is necessary to list all GOT topics to provide an easy access.

I have tried to lower the minimum word lenght to 3 and re-index the whole forum - this is not very good for performance but given the relatively small numbers we have around here it should be okay - I still can't find the threads searching for "GOT:" so I am assuming this is a bug with vBulletin.

My suggestion is to use the Tags functionality instead. For example, I have mass-tagged all the threads you listed with the "gotthread" tag. Now you can simply click here and retrieve all the list ;) I suggest changing the convention so to use the word "GOTTHREAD" when opening a new one - this will automatically tag the new thread and it will update the above list. Any thread missed out can be simply tagged at the bottom of the page with the same keyword.

Hope this helps, at the same time as you know I am considering upgrading to a different forum software.

Please note that the above links are now invalid due to the forum migration and I will be reconstructing them in the next few days. Stay tuned, and apologies for this :-)

Actually - I will just create a sub forum of the WWII forum and move all the GOT topics in there.
