Lacey was C.O. from November 1944 to May 1946, but 17 (not 17th.) Squadron used Spitfire VIIIs until June 1945, with the XIVs from then until February 1948, so Lacey would have flown a XIV from Thedaw (possibly, in June 45,) Madura (June-Sept 45,) Seletar (Sept 45 - Jan 46,) Kuala Lumpur (Jan - Mar 46,) Singapore (Mar 46,) Kure (Mar 46 ) & Iwakuni (Mar - May 46.)

.According to records RN135 was delivered to India 12-4-45, then went to Japan (with the Squadron, presumably) 28-9-46, being finally SOC 24-3-48.

From what Rolls-Royce say ("The Merlin in Perspective," no.2 in the R-R Heritage Trust's Historical Series,) from the start, since they say that, "Before the end of the Battle Spitfire IIs with Merlin XIIs were in service, with the supercharger gear ratio increased from 8.58 to 9.09:1 giving a better full throttle height at 12lb boost......"
In the Pilot's Notes, for the Spitfire II, use of 12lb was restricted to take-off to 1000 feet (12.5lbs, in fact,) and to combat, with a 5 minute limit; there is a rider that the 12lb combat boost was "obtained by operating the boost control cut-out, and is effective up to about 10,500 feet."
All of that was only allowed on 100 octane; with 87 octane 7lbs was the maximum permitted.
