View Full Version : Wierd Japanese Manuvering

I've read a few accounts of Pacific Theater American pilots witnessing 'bizarre' manuveres from Japanese pilots who would commence unneeded aerobatics during combat. The Japanese have accounted for this supposedly. It was a way of communicating as a back-up for failed radio transmissions.

Most of what I've read has been very vague and cursory. I would like all the tiny details of this phenomenon. What about you folks?

This is a new one on me Trexx, but it makes me curious. Hope you get some answers!

Didn't the Japanese do without radio communications in their fighters until very late in the war?

You didnīt get much answers, Trexx. I only have read that the radio equipment of the Zero was disturbed by the ignition of the engine and thus nearly unusable. I recommend you to do another try on

I have read about communicating by writing on sheets of paper & hoping your wingman can read it...

These 'wierd aerobatics' - was it stuff like wing-waggling etc?

I wouldn't know much about the regular airforce back-up comunications, but kamikazes use to wag wings to the escort aircrafts before going to the final attack. That might of been it in some cases.
