Anyone know how effective this was - 4 x 220-lb bombs

Serves as good armour plating for the pilot.

Tail dropping is't good for bombs is it?

By WWII standards I don't think tail dropping overly affected bombing accuracy, according to Paul Brickhill it was a "...notoriously hit and miss affair, mostly miss...". On Close support if you're close enough you'll hit (Or near enough), if not you'll miss in either case.

If I remember correctly, for my "best fighter-bomber" thread I researched that the Yak 9B got rejected by the VVS in this role...
