Hello every one!
It's nice to see some interest about VVS, their tactics and Russian combat birds in WW2. I wish I share the info with you, but most of the sources in Russian. Recently I found an excellent source, being translated into English now. The site is not completed yet, but some stories already available.
Few words from the source:
"A Hundred Stalin Falcons Fighting For Their Motherland"
....The collective of authors of the book was formed by pilots of fighter aviation (42 pilots), bombardment (11), attack (39), and reconnaissance (8) aviation. 79 authors were once awarded by a gold medal of Hero (we remind that during the war there were 2271 such aviators), 20 - twice (almost a third from 65 twice of Heroes of the war) and one - three times, he was glorified air ace I.N. KOZHEDUB (there were two such aces, the other three times Hero of the Soviet Union, A.I. POKRYSHKIN, did not study at the AF Academy).
There was the classification code on the book - "For official use only". In spite of the fact that this code was removed by order N 59 of the Air Force Commander-in-Chief signed on May 11, 1959, the collection of Soviet war aces combat episodes did not become more accessible to mass readers, the book itself yet became a rarity. Only few copies of the book were saved including a personal copy of air marshal S.A. Krasovsky that was transferred after his death to the library of the Air Force museum at Monino...
So here it is:
