Unofficial poll first. You can answer the initial question by two ways:

1. Yes, I do like the C-17, RT you know I am always an admirer of your pictures and I am impatiently waiting for the things to come!

2. No, I hate this butt-ugly aircraft but we all here know you, RT, as a cruel and ruthless person who won't care about our objection.

So folks, you now you have the chance either to express your RT-picture-addiction or to say your famous last words until the flood will take you away...!;):D

Go ahead!

Regards, RT

First time here? Scroll up please!

The ones above were consciously left without comment. They don't need any, I mean. But the following ones can take some words:

Despite of the aircraft's good take-off and landing characteristics, sometimes the runway hastily needs an extension:

It can happen that, while in the skies, you encounter an "Angel of Modernity":

Let me finish with probably one of the best pictures in my collection. Here, the aircraft is banking for to land in Lima, Peru:

Hope you enjoyed, and regards, RT

It looks kinda bulbous, and reminds me a little of a bumblebee in flight. Still...

They are so functional, and for what they can do they actually look rather small

If you have a look at the album above you'll see the pictures I took of an RAF C-17 landing at RAF Cosford to deliver a new exhibit (a Pave Low helicopter). It was pretty stunning watching it take off right over me.

So thumb up for the C-17! And for Red Baron Pizza! (Don't know if Manfred von Richthofen ever ate pizza, even worse, I learned Levi Strauss never wore "his" trousers...)

Thank you for answers and interest!

I've been in the back of these things a couple of times now, and I must say they are a pleasure to be in after riding Herk's and Wallaby's let me tell you!
Ah and you can sleep like a baby on a flight!

Unfortunately I would like to have seen one of the slightly smaller (and one hope a cheaper!) YC-14 or YC-15 put into production and service!

Hi RT,

I really like the C-17, and I don't think its ugly at all. It's a great airplane.

I know that the C-17 can carry loads that the C-130 can't match, but, when it comes to getting down-and-dirty in out-of-the-way trouble spots with their short, soft, rough landing fields having steep approaches and climb-outs, no heavy-lift airplane ever made can compare with my favorite--the C-130. It's been around for over 50 (!) years now, and it's still going strong. When all is said and done in aviation history, the Hercules will overshadow even the venerable C-47.

Regards,

Lightning

I like the C-17 a LOT. We have had one at the Chino Planes of Fame airshow before and will have one again this year. March AFB is nearby and we always fly each other's airshow.

The best day to watch is Friday afternoon when the planes arrive at Chino for the airchow. Somethimes they do an "arrival airshow maneuver" that can be spectatcular.

I have ssen a C-17 do some amazing things around Southern California.

Still, I love the shot in Peru below!

Cheers!
