Another Mosquito thread......

The Mosquito could have flown in early 1939 (though not it seems in the layout that did eventually fly) but due to disinterest didn't until November 1940 - around 18 month potential development time was lost??

Taking the actual service dates, what could the introduction of the Mosquito variants around 18 months earlier have achieved.

The OTL NF Mk.II entered service April 42 so in TTL, it enters service September/October 1940??

The OTL B.IV first mission was May 42 so in TTL, it enters service October/November 1940

In TTL, the first flight of the Mosquito is before war has broken out, what are the chances of keeping its performance secret? (I have heard it suggested that some on the disinterest was so not to encourage the Germans to develop their own 'fast' bomber)

Irrelevant, appropriate AI radar didn't turn up for over a year. Early radars required time and space in the aircraft ... and they often didn't work. The Blenheim/Beaufighter sequence allowed the radar systems and radar control to be developed. The speedier Mosquito may have made it all too hard.

Wasn't AI MKIV installed in Blenheim NF for 1940?

IIRC, it was an AI MKIV equipped Blenheim that scored the first hit for that system in July 1940.

Yes, the AI Blenheims operated out of Manston by night and filled in the holes during the day.

It seems that in March 1939 in one of his very honest reports on the state of Bomber Command Ludlow Hewitt called for a fast reconnaissance aircraft also capable of harassing attacks.....
