Would any of the land based aircraft in development at the time have been able to match the Shetland in terms of payload/range - a copy of janes says 7,620lb for 4,650 miles, 22,000lb for 3,000 miles or 30,025lb for 2,076miles all at around 184-188mph.

6500 km with 4000 kg (transport variand, 4000 miles with 8800 lbs).

With additional fuel tanks the range of transport variant should increase up to 13600 km.
