We don't seem to be able to post the little smiley/emoticon thingys in our text any more.

If you go to your User CP -> Edit Options you will find at the bottom of the page Miscellaneous Options in which you can set your editor style. If you choose Standard Editor you should get the Smilies - though the feature is turned off in some parts of the forum - such as this one.

With the Basic Editor, as mine was set to, you don't get the text formatting options and you can't post pictures.

If you look at the bottom left of the page when you are in one of the boards you will see the posting rules - which for this part of the forum says Smilies are off.

In the World War II Aviation board the smilies are, happily, turned on.
