View Full Version : What are the strings for?

No, not the ones on your girlfriendīs bra. When you look at biplanes, nearly none is of cantilever layout, on most of them there are struts, and also there are strings drawn between upper and lower wing.

Now let me know: what is the purpose of these strings? Any sensible answer like "to improve structural stability" will be ignored.:D

The winner will get no price, but a proof! Solution on monday evening (middle European time), if there is no correct answer until then.

What else would the pilot dry his laundry with? Securely pegged and taken for a quick jaunt over the airfield even the thickest of woollens will dry in no time!

Control wires for the ailerons.

On my still incomplete model Swordfish it really is string. I'll have to post a picture later.

Hi, RT,

Dunno about wires, but struts are clearly for the pilot's girlfriend (or boyfriend) to hang on to...
