Time-machine failure proceeding the landing accident...:)
Or did the film editor confuse his documents about "Star Wars" and "Midway" ?

It seriously looks like a cross between a proboscis monkey and a Soviet folding-wing biplane, with NO room for a radial engine.

Hi All,

I really think this photograph is a fake! The carrier just doesn't look right to me.

Actually this photo captured a reaccuring problem for X-Wings on carriers. Early model X-Wings had a tendency for the front nose skid to seize after it was raised. This was discovered to be caused by catapult launching stress and was later corrected.

I know what you all are thinking. Maybe the nose skid got ripped off by the arresting wires? If you notice the wings are in the 'X' open position. X Wings take off and land with the wings in the closed position. The pilot already knew he/she was in trouble and thus used the 'open' tactic in an attempt to brace the fuselage and/or tangle the cannons in the wires.

Where is Yoda to lift a X-Wing when you need him.

I'd like to point out that X-Wings have never been particularly successful in black and white. They do MUCH better in color, preferrably at LEAST TechniColor if not PanaVision. They do best when filmed at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM).

Possibly the strain of color-loss was a factor in the accident investigation report.

Ah,

Fox Mulder WAS right: The truth is somewhere out there!

Was this the same unit that was based near Roswell/New Mexico right after the war...?

And if it was NOT made by ET's? I want to believe, it were german engineers, who built this X-fighter for the USA - of course...? :D

Cheers!

Everybody knows those rebel pilots are hacks! They couldn't hit the side of a barn with a bass fiddle.
