I presume you mean aircraft close to each of us [^]

Close to home I have a P-51, one or two P-40's, a Catalina, a C-47, A Zero, a Spitfire, a Lancaster, a Mosquito, a Hudson, a Venturer, a Sunderland, a Buzzbomb and a handful of Harvards. Thats just around Auckland, there are more to the south.

cheers

The best thing locally is the Shuttleworth Collection (20 minute drive)

Fairly close to me is the De Havilland Aircraft Heritage Museum

Mosquito
Miami, Florida, USA
* RS712 retired from service 9 May 1963 was sold to Kermit Weeks in 1981 and is in the Weeks Aviation Museum, Miami, Florida reportedly still in flying condition.
* RS712 was used in movie 633 Squadron, 1964.

I live north of Miami, but I saw this aircraft fly at the Miami airshow around 1991. I figured I'd tease the Mossie fans. Amongst others, there is a warbirds museum in north central Florida, but I havn't made it there yet. There are two local airshows twice a year, so lately I havn't had to travel far. There is also a B-17 that visits 1-2 times a year. I love it because they'll let you crawl inside. I believe a pair of AT-6? Texans operate locally and take people up for mock dogfights. I used to live close to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome in New York. They have a fine collection of WWI era aircraft and replicas.

Hi Mark,

Is the Zero in Auckland?

When I lived in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, the place was a warbird haven. At Deer Valley airport, there were several MiG-15s, a MiG-17, a Polish TS-11 Iskra, several Aero L-39s, and several NAMC CJ-6s (some had the original 285 hp engine engine and others had the Russian M-14P of 360 hp).

I managed a few flights in a North American T-6G and there were several local Spitfires (Woody Woods' Spitfire was beautiful) as well as the CAF B-17, a Spanish-bult CASA (He-111 with Merlins), and several T-28s of various models. Most had the "big" engine.

There was a local Super Pinto jet with a C-85 in it at Scottsdale (I think it belonged to Mike Dillon), and a local company (Thunderbird Aviation) operated two T-33s, two F-104s, and two A-3 Skywarriors on contract to the Navy and Air Force. They also had a Neptune, but I never saw it move.

The best "must see" was the Champlin Fighter Museum in Mesa at Falcon Field, but it has been liquidated, with most of the planes going to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wasington. They had many types, most of which were capable of flight. They had a P-40, Bf-109E, F6F, two Corsairs including a Goodyear F2G with the R-4360 Wasp Major, a P-83, a P-51, a Yak-3, A Japanese Kawashini N1K2 Shinden on loan from the NASM, a MiG-15, a MiG-17, an F-4 Phantom, an F-86, and a host of WWI replicas, all of which were flight ready ... but were not flown. A really neat place that I was sorry to see disappear. I suppose Doug came to prefer the money to the planes ... can't say since I didn't know him personally other than being introduced once.

Dear Groggy, if you happen to come to Bavaria, go to Deutsches Museum in Munich and its Flugwerft (flight warp) in Oberschleissheim, a bit north of Munich (besides a WWII nightfighter airfield). They have lots of exhibits. You shouldn´t do a selection, they are all worth to be looked upon.

Quite a large collection can be found in the airforce museum Berlin
Gatow, althoug not all in best condition :The post-war types of both
german air arms, mainly in the open and in the hangar several war
birds, here my favourite is the replica of the DFS 230 assault
glider, which was built using original parts. Another interesting
exhibit ist the main spar of a Me 323, although still without any
explanations ! But, if you come to this museum, be aware: Drinking
is forbidden here, even in the open, you could damage the tarmac!
Also worth a trip is the "Deutsches Technik Museum Berlin" (german
technical museum)with a Me 110 and a He 162, besides several other
types.

I live near the museum of the Aeronautica Militare Italiana at Vigna di Valle. http://www.ottocubano.com/MUSEO%20VIGNA%20DI%20VALLE%202.htm
Always open and free. The only "problem" is the scarce information given about the exposed engines, and that only part of the collection is exposed.
